Western MA Weekend

 The view from Sugarloaf!!

A hike inside gate 40 in the Quabbin Reservoir Woods finds this abandoned town of Dana. Several towns were "bought out" by the government in 1938  to create an enormous reservoir and major supplier of the Boston area's drinking water. Approximately two million people are supplied water from this source. Dana was said to be one of the more 'well to do' communities. Dana was founded in 1763. Just a few short miles in, finds beautifully constructed foundations, root cellars, and other historical artifacts. The town commons is still there along with sidewalks and roads. Some of the trees around the common are hundreds of years old. What they must have witnessed!
